Silent Knight
IIIIIT’S CHRRIIIIIISTMAAAAAAAAAAS, as big-sideburned Brummie Noddy Holder once sang. And how right he is, for Christmas is just around the corner, which can only mean one thing….it’s time for The Dandy’s Christmas Special!
And something about a holy baby.
But yes, The Dandy’s Christmas Special is out NOW, and I’m delighted to say I’ve been gifted with as many strips in this year’s issue as there were Wise Men – THREE! Yes, THREEEEE!
Firstly, there’s a festive George vs Dragon, which takes the form of a reworked Christmas carol, much like last year’s ‘Knight Before Christmas‘. This year, it’s ‘Silent Night’ that gets the medieval makeover, in a strip I call ‘Silent Knight‘. GEDDIT?????
Elsewhere, I have two seasonal mini-strips in the issue! The first of these is called ‘Rude-olph’, and features Santa’s rudest reindeer:
The second is called ‘Elf and Safety’, and follows the health and safety regulations in Santa’s workshop…
As well as more festive fun from the likes of Desperate Dan, Mr. Meecher, Bananaman and Postman Prat, this week’s Dandy also sees the final ever Harry Hill strip, which adds a touch of sadness to proceedings. Harry Hill has been front and centre of the new-look Dandy since its revamp in October 2010, and has been great fun, I thought. Nigel Parkinson’s art has never been less than stellar, and his writing has similarly sparkled, along with that of his ocassional co-writer, Sean Baldwin. I’ll be sad to see the strip go, but hope Nigel and Sean both get something new to work on in the New Year!
Anyway, let’s not all get too sad and start crying into our Cherryade and Eggnog. It’s Christmas! So rush out and pick up the 44-page Dandy special, replete with 7 groovy gifts, NOW!
£3.99 in all good-tiding newsagents.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Lots of big news this week!
Last Harry Hill strip, three new strips: The Best Thing About Xmas Is…, Rude-Olph and Elf and Safety! My Own Genie is NEW! Cuddles and Dimples are back!
And the only three mini-strips to survive were 99 Genius Homework Excuses, Korky the Cat and Animals Eat The Funniest Things, by Karl Dixon, Phil Corbett and Duncan Scott!
Wrong, Oliver. My Own Genie was reprint just like always. Jamie Smart said on his blog “there’s a 4-page My Own Genie christmas special which, if I might be so bold, made me laugh because it’s been a while and I forgot what it was about. IT’S PRETTY GOOD.” It has been a while because it’s been six years.
