Cover Stars!

IT’S HAPPENED! Almost a year after their first appearance in The Dandy, George and Dragon manage to sneak their way onto the front cover of this week’s issue (see above). HURRAH!

Meanwhile, inside the comic, George vs Dragon follows George’s latest hair-brained scheme to catch his fire-breathing foe, which involves setting up a (not so) cunning trap….

PLUS! I’ve also done an X Factor-based Madvert for this issue (featuring a cameo for The Doctor), and this week also sees the last in the current run for Dave the Squirrel! Awwwwwww! Bye-bye, Dave!

But don’t fret, he’ll still pop up in numerous cameos in my other strips, I’m sure. He always manages to sneak in somehow. But if you want to see him return in his own strip, then let The Dandy know – it’s your comic, chums!

Elsewhere in this issue we have more My Own Genie by Jamie Smart, Postman Prat by Lew Stringer, Bananaman by Wayne Thompson and another Turtle Wipeout by Stu Munro. PLUS! Some spooky-wooky Halloween themed gifts! WoooooOOOOOooooooh! All for just £2.50! BARG.

Talking of Halloween, next issue sees the return of stupid spook Boo!, in a one-off, two-page Halloween special. So be sure to pick that issue up as well…..IF YOU DARE! Mwaaaaahaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaa! (Seriously though, please do pick it up, it’s great).

Cosgrove Hall RETURN!

LAST YEAR, in this very blog that you are now reading with your eyeballs, I wrote an entry about the closure of Cosgrove Hall Films, one of Britain’s best-loved animation studios, responsible for the likes of Danger Mouse and Count Duckula, among other classic cartoons.

Well, it seems like you can’t keep a good studio down, and Cosgrove Hall Films have risen like an animated phoenix from the cartoon ashes, as newly-formed Cosgrove Hall Fitzpatrick Entertainment.

This new enterprise sees the return of both Brian Cosgrove and Mark Hall in executive producer capacities, partnering up with Francis Fitzpatrick (of Jakers! fame), with Simon Hall as managing director. Currently, it seems they have two series on the cards, delightful-looking pre-school show Pip!, and comedy action toon HeroGliffix.

This is, of course, excellent news for the UK animation industry, and good news for fans of one of the nation’s most fondly-remembered studios. I had the good fortune to work with the original studio in developing my Carrotty Kid pilot (see below), and am excited to see the studio return purely as a fan of much of their old output, and because they’re such jolly nice folk!

Let’s wish them all the very best of British luck, chums!

Match of the Knight

It’s time to kick off with the latest issue of The Dandy!

In this week’s fun-packed issue, my strip George vs Dragon features the most EXCITING game of football (or pig-bladder) EVER SEEN! Who will win? George United, or Dragon FC? (I think the ‘FC’ stands for ‘Fiery Creature’).

There’s also another nutty episode of Dave the Squirrel, featuring the return of his arch-nemesis Dr. Grey, AND Dave gets his furry face on the contents page, wherein he seems to be hosting a competition to win a copy of this year’s Dandy annual (in shops NOW!)

All that is wrapped up in a lovely Jamie Smart Desperate Dan cover, featuring a very attractive cow. Wait, did I say attractive? I didn’t mean attractive. Uh. Ahem. Erm…

ANYWAY, inside you’ll also find another excellent episode of Rocky’s Horror Show by Wilbur Dawbarn, another awesome Postman Prat by Lew Stringer, and another great Nuke Noodle adventure, by Alexander Matthews.

It’s in the shop NOW, for only £1.50 – so go buy a copy or you’ll get the RED CARD!
