Dandy Preview: The Big Fight!
LEEEETTTTT’S GEEEEET RRRREEEAAADDDY TOOO RRRRRUUUUMMMMBBBBLLLLEEE!
The latest issue of the increasingly excellent Dandy has arrived on my doorstep today, and it is a DOOZY!
First up, we have the grudge-match that’s been in the making for DECADES, as The Dandy’s very own Desperate Dan takes on The Beano’s Dennis the Menace, in this week’s Arena of Awesome, by Jamie Smart. It’s really good fun, and Jamie’s take on Dennis (as can be seen in the little teaser poster I knocked up above) is excellent. Awesome, INDEED.
Then there’s the second of my very own strip, Boo!, in which the useless ghoul tries to terrify an OLD LADY. With hilarious results! (Hopefully).
Thirdly, The Etherington Brothers (the cartooning geniuses behind the DFC’s excellent Monkey Nuts) bring their highly-anticipated and stupidly gorgeous strip Yore to the comic – here’s a taster of the wonders to come:
As well as all THAT goodness, there’s a two-page Mr. Meecher by Will Dawbarn, and Valentine’s Day-based woe for both Lew Stringer’s Postman Prat, and Phil Corbett’s Korky the Cat.
All that AND a little tiny cameo by George (from my George vs Dragon strip) – and it’s not even by me! Wowzers!
So there you go, an action-packed, fun-stuffed and ever-so slightly romantic issue of The Dandy! Pick it up at all good stockists from Wednesday the 9th of February, for only £1.50 – you’ll LOVE IT!

Boo Debut!
Sorry, did I scare you? No? Well, if that didn’t TERRIFY you, neither will my new character Boo!, who makes his first attempt to fill The Dandy comic with scares in today’s issue, out NOW for only £1.50!
Pick up a copy….IF YOU DARE.
Mwah-hahahaha!
(Seriously, pick up a copy, its great).

(Or should that be Fart-On?)
Those SCAMPS.
Endings and Beginnings
WELL LOOKEE HERE, if it isn’t another issue of The Dandy brightening up newsagents across the land today!
This issue is one of both joy and sadness for me – on the plus side, it’s crammed full of all the usual excellent stuff, including Desperate Dan by Jamie Smart, a full-page Korky the Cat by Phil Corbett, Stan Helsing by Nik Holmes, along with the new strip Graeme Reaper by David Banks and a new Mailbag page, wherein readers can send in their letters and pictures. (Oddly, there seems to be two submissions by Portsmouth-based readers in this issue!)
On the sad side, this issue also brings with it the last in the current run of George vs Dragon.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve grown really rather fond of that medieval menace and his fiery foe. It’s been my first ever published comics work, and I’ve enjoyed every single second of drawing and writing these strips, even if I was exceptionally nervous about being published alongside proper, talented cartoonists. However, I’ve been hugely hugely HUGELY overwhelmed by how quickly readers have taken to the pair, and all the lovely comments, fan art and emails have really been very appreciated indeed. So thank YOU.
I’ve just finished doing some more George vs Dragon for this year’s Dandy annual (huzzah!) but as to whether they’ll return in the weekly very much depends on reader demand, so if you did enjoy it, let The Dandy know, either via Facebook, Twitter or electronic mail, and maybe there’ll be more in the future!
However, while one door closes, another opens, and this week’s Dandy also has a tiny preview of my NEW strip, starting next week:
YES! Next Wednesday sees the start of Boo!, my second strip, so there’s still more of my scrawls to come, chums! HOORAAAAAY! Hooray I say!
I’m really proud of Boo! as well, and think it has some of my best artwork in these strips, so I hope you’ll all welcome him with open arms. Although he will, of course, just pass straight through you.
See you next week, then – for all new adventures!
- Fanton.
